The Top Web Design Trends for 2017

The field of web design is constantly evolving, as new trends come to the forefront and old ones fade away forever. Gone are the days of overuse of animated gifs and autoplaying music; there are new trends that rule the world of graphic design as we push forward through 2017.

Here are some of today’s biggest web design trends:

  • Big and bold: Header images, header fonts and more are getting bigger and bolder, as more companies are focused on making an immediate “statement” when users land on their pages. Companies are focused on establishing a single all-encompassing statement about the products or services they provide, almost immediately upon landing on a site.
  • Responsive design: Responsive design has been skyrocketing in popularity over the last couple years, as mobile devices have become the primary tool used for browsing the web. These types of designs make it easy for a design to accommodate screens of all sizes without webmasters needing to create a separate mobile version of their site.
  • Drawing attention to content: As content marketing becomes a greater point of emphasis for companies, web design is starting to shift to take that into account. Today, design elements are typically being arranged in a structure that makes it easier for readers to quickly and easily focus on the important messages, rather than being distracted by the design elements themselves. As a result, many designs are appearing simpler than they did in recent years.
  • Bright color: Even though today’s designs are becoming more minimalistic, designers still need to implement aesthetic touches that prevent websites from looking sterile. Bright colors are a simple way of doing that. Just look, for example, at the redesign of Instagram’s logo this past year. Much simpler, much brighter color.
  • Unique layouts: There’s been a lot of discussion about the “boxy” nature of a lot of today’s web designs, but the tail end of 2016 saw a greater focus on crafting unique layouts, and we expect to see that trend continue to gain momentum throughout 2017.
  • Greater focus on conversion: Designers and content marketers are working hand-in-hand these days to deliver the best possible user experience, which means a lot of designs are created with an even greater focus on conversion. There is, for example, more of a focus on using genuine, conversational language than ever, as well as the ability to support user-created content.
